is your mobile phone an electronic leash?

In what seems to be clearly a major breach of privacy, as part of a study, a research team from Northeastern University in Boston teamed up with an unidentified carrier, to track the daily movements of around 100,000 mobile phone users over a period of 6 months – by monitoring their calls and texts.

The team was able to track user movements by analyzing data on which transmitting towers handled the calls and texts of the subjects. This calls for a concerted effort by regulators to develop a comprehensive privacy policy to protect the rights of mobile phone users – till then, keep smiling and don’t stray.
